== 개요 ==
1982년 발매된 앨범 <[[Thriller]]>에 수록된 [[마이클 잭슨]]의 히트 싱글이다. <[[Thriller]]> 앨범의 오프닝 트랙으로, 4번째 싱글로서 1983년 5월 8일에 발매됐다. [[빌보드 핫 100]]에서 1983년 7월 셋째 주부터 넷째 주까지 2주 연속 5위를 기록했으며, '[[빌보드 R&B 차트|Hot Black Singles]]'에서도 5위를 기록했다. 영국에서는 8위에 진입했다.

2008년에는 R&B 뮤지션 [[Akon]]에 의해 리믹스되어 'Wanna Be Startin Somethin 2008'로 발매됐다. 미국에서 1위를 했고, 전 세계에서 30위 안에 모두 진입했다.

가사는 아무런 이유 없이 주장하며 소문을 퍼뜨리는 낯선 사람과 관련이 있다. 음악적으로는 1979년에 발표된 <[[Off the Wall]]>의 [[디스코]] 사운드를 불러 일으킨다. 이 노래는 복잡한 리듬 배열과 특유의 경적 배열이 특징이다.[* 원래 <[[Off the Wall]]>에 수록될 곡이었다. ] 출시 이후 여러 레코딩 아티스트들이 다룰 수 있도록 샘플링 되기도 하였다.[* 대표 샘플링 곡이 [[리아나]]의 [[Don't Stop the Music(리아나)|Don't Stop the Music]]] 이 노래는 잭슨의 여러 히트 베스트 앨범들에 수록되어있다.
